Grape wine that is...

Misty & I had a BEAUTIFUL Saturday night. Ohhh, i forgot i haven't introduced you to Misty yet. Well i'll make a special post about her soon because she deserves a post devoted entirely to her!

Here lately it's been crazy! Misty is a 3rd grade teacher and she's also getting ready to go back to college to get her master's. AND, i just became a GRANDPA on 8/18/2008 (more about that in another post later). So with all the goings on, we haven't had much "us" time lately.

Our weekends are usually spent with friends or hanging out at Lonestar or both. We love to have fun, go dancing, which we haven't done in a while, play rock band on the Xbox 360 and just do whatever. But like i said, here lately it's been crazy and we needed a night alone.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicIt just so happened i had gotten the keys to Fisher's Peak from work. Our intentions were to take some friends up there a week or so ago and it never worked out. If you've never been to Fisher's Peak, man you are missing out! Luckily the company i work for has radio equipment up there so i have access to the keys to the gate. Otherwise you would have to walk a great bit to get there, or take a four wheeler or dirt bike. Anyway, it has one of the most spectacular views you'll ever see in this area. Fisher's Peak is the highest point in Surry County and believe me, the view is AWESOME! On a clear day you can see downtown Winston-Salem.

Back to our Saturday night. We wanted to do something alone but couldn't decide what to do, since there's SOO much to do in this glorious town of ours! I made a suggestion to grab a bite, pack the picnic basket with some wine and head up to the Peak. Cool clear mornings are the best time to go, you can see forever, but it's also spectacular to go right before sunset and as it gets dark, you can see all the lights from Mt. Airy and surrounding areas start to light up. It's BEAUTIFUL!

We headed up there about 7:00 or so and that gave us plenty of time to get to the Peak before sunset. The road is pretty beat up and my big ole 4x4 had a test at times. We got up to the Peak probably about 7:45. Oh, and we ate Little Caesar's pizza on the way up!

We got the truck turned around and parked and got our flashlights and picnic basket and blanket and headed to the rock. There's a huge rock that you can walk out on to see the view, and if you're afraid of heights like me, it'll take your breath away "Misty, you take my breath away"

Image and video hosting by TinyPicWe sat down and just stared at the beauty of the view for a moment or two, then we poured some wine and just sat there, it was so peaceful and restful. Of course Misty was as beautiful as ever and her beauty was far greater than the view, so my eyes were on her as much as the lights lighting up as nighttime fell. Occasional kisses and smiles and hugs, sweet words and snuggles, man it was great! We laughed and took pictures, Misty kept singing some song and i can't remember it right now but maybe she'll comment on what it was, it was stuck in her head and about EVERY 5 MINUTES she would sing it hahaha.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicIt was kind of chilly up there with the breeze, so after we snuggled a bit and finished our wine, we got e/thing packed up and got the flashlights on and headed back to the truck. The trip down the mountain was a TRIP! Occasionally i would turn the headlights off while we were on a straight stretch and it was pitch black, that was a crazy feeling! We got back down to the parkway and spotlighted for some deer, we only saw one though.

We finally got home and were both worn out from the tense ride down the mountain and the long day so we crashed. It was a beautiful evening with my beautiful fiance'. Thank you Angel for a great evening!

We hope to take our friends up to Fisher's peak someday and let them enjoy the view and the experience.

Have any of you ever been to Fisher's Peak?
