48 Hours Without My Computer

16 September 2008 No Comment

Earlier this month in my post What Can't You Live Without, i talked about technology and asked you what you couldn't live without. Cell phones, computers etc etc.

This past weekend was our Weekend Getaway, part of Misty's birthday. Well i knew ahead of time from speaking to the lady that owned the cabin where we stayed, that there was really no use to bring the laptop. Why? She only has DIAL-UP internet service in her home, and no internet service at the Bed & Breakfast. Oh and just a side note, i think if i ever had to go back to dial-up, i'd jump off a cliff!

But anyway, it wasn't really a big deal, we left Friday afternoon and would be back Sunday afternoon. So it was actually kinda nice to be away from the computer for a while. When we got home Sunday afternoon, we both headed straight for the computers. Misty had to do her school and college work, and i had to catch up on emails and check on my websites. We spent the rest of the evening catching up!

So i was gone from my computer for a total of about 48 hours. When i got home Sunday i had around 50 emails. I'm sure some of you have way more than that. But it just got me to thinking how dependent on my computer i have become. I don't think it's a scary thing, as some would say it's bad to be dependent on a computer, internet etc.. Well i do depend on my computer for that extra income every month, so yeah, i'm dependent on my computer!

So after only 48 hours, i had 50 emails to sort through, some business, some friends, some junk. I had my 7 websites to check on to make sure the feeds and everything else was working properly. I had to check my earnings from about 5 or 6 different places. I had to check my stats for all my sites for visitors, warnings, etc etc. Then i had to visit about 5 sites that i keep a constant check on so i wouldn't get behind on anything new that i need to know or learn. Then i needed to start actually doing work on my sites, adding to the different blogs, adding content etc etc.

Whewwww, that makes me tired thinking about it!

What in the world would i do if i had to go a week, a month or more without internet access? What would i do if i couldn't check my email for that long? I guess there's a difference in needing to get to the computer and having to get to the computer huh? Maybe if i just used the internet and email for day to day casual stuff, and felt like i couldn't do without it, then maybe i'd have a problem HA!
