Another Birthday – Another Memory

3 November 2008 2 Comments

Well another birthday has come and gone.  Since Misty and i have been dating, she has always went above and beyond when it comes to my birthday, and this year was no different!  Even though Friday was my birthday, the celebration lasted all weekend!

Friday morning Misty went and got us breakfast... YUMMY!  Then of course we both had to work all day.  Friday afternoon we sat out on the front porch and carved a pumpkin together.  I had never in my 43 years carved a pumpkin so it was fun to experience that with my sweetheart.  Of course she did most of the work since i can't cut too straight and she loves digging all that mush out! HA!  But it was very sweet!  That morning she had left me a little clue in my truck letting me know what our plans would be for Friday night, and we had a ball!  Some of our friends had come to the house to meet up with us and we all went to Winston-Salem to do a beer tasting at Foothills Brewing.  Now Misty and i have went to quite a few wine festivals and have done quite a few wine tastings, but i never knew there were beer tastings!  It was a great atmosphere, quite a few folks were dressed for Halloween and it's a very cool place to visit.  Wings, pizza and the beer sampler made for a lot of laughs and a fun night!  I will throw this in there, if you do go and do the tasting, DO NOT try the "Rainbow Trout ESB"!  ANY beer with TROUT in the name can't be good!  And it's NOT hahaha!  ESB stands for "extra special bitter" and they ARE NOT kidding!  If you ever have a chance, check it out!  Downtown Winston-Salem sure has changed from what it use to be!

I had opened my gifts from Misty and friends Friday afternoon!  I always feel so undeserving hahah, but i loved everything!  I also got to see my Daughter and Grandson and Eric aka EZ.E at lunch Friday, so it was nice to spend a few minutes with them on my B'day!

Saturday we went to eat breakfast and later that morning Misty informed me that we were heading out of town for the night!  Where to?  One of our favorite Winery's in the Mountains, Thistle Meadow.  Owned and operated by Tom Burgiss, this is a great little winery located in a beautiful place called Laurel Springs, NC.  We've stayed in that area quite a few times and visited that winery many times.  Little did we both know, there's an old farmhouse beside the winery that we always assumed was the owners house.  Well it use to be but now is the Burgiss Farm Bed and Breakfast.  Like i said, in the almost 2 years Misty and i have dated, we've stayed at several cabins and B&B's, but this one ranks right up there at the top!

We arrived at the winery and of course did a wine tasting!  They have some YUMMY wines!  Jenny did a great job and after the tasting we bought a few bottles to bring home and then we went next door to the B&B.  From the get go this experience was wonderful!  From the little sign on the door welcoming us, to our stroll down to the beautiful creek where we sat at the picnic table and ummm, got "reacquainted", everything was so relaxing and great!  Misty had ordered us a cheese tray and that along with a bottle of wine, sitting on the front porch, enjoying the view and later watching and talking to the hostess as she planted flower bulbs along the front of the house, it was a start of an awesome weekend together!

The Burgiss Farm B&B is a really nice place that has EVERYTHING you need or would want for a weekend getaway.  A huge living room with a large woodstove insert made the atmosphere perfect!  With a nice fire going we bundled up and took a little nap!  The B&B also has a little stepdown area that has a bumper pool table, a piano (Misty learned to play chopsticks with me), a dart board, all kinds of books, magazines and movies to choose from.  Steps take you upstairs to your choice of 2 bedrooms (you always have the B&B to yourself if you stay there) and the bathroom is up there as well.  All in all this is one of the nicest and most relaxing places we've stayed in all our times together.  The land is beautiful, there's a nice little pond up on the hill behind the B&B and winery and you'll never want to come back home if you stay there!

Saturday night we drove into West Jefferson to grab a bite, and after our usual, "what do you want? i dunno? what do you want?" session, we ended up at a great little pub and listend to a DJ crank out some tunes and watched some folks sing karoke.  "Come on Misty, sing Kerosene" hahaha  It was really fun and as always we had a blast!

We didn't even realize that time changed Saturday night, but after a long day we watched a little tv then crashed.  Of course since this was a Bed & Breakfast, there was one more thing to look forward to... BREAKFAST!  Btw, we had great hosts!  Glen & Cindy run the B&B and they did a SUPER job!  Very nice folks and i'm telling you, they don't miss a beat when it comes to taking care of the people that stay there!  We had picked out what we wanted the night before, so the next morning the smell of coffee and breakfast drew us both to the table as soon as it was time.  They started off with a breakfast appetizer, Apple Surprise!  OMG it was good!  They also had fresh muffins and then came the breakfast.  Eggs, sausage, bacon, fried potatos, biscuits, jelly and butter!  Dang, i'm gettin hungry sittin here typing this!  Everything was seasoned and it tasted so good!  I can just about taste is right now!  We sat there after we ate and talked to Glen and Cindy for a bit and then got to meet there little dog, can't remember it's name but it was sweet!

We took a mid morning nap and then after taking a few pics and walking around a bit, we were packed up and ready to come home.  I never want to leave those places we visit, it's always so relaxing and so nice to get away for a while.  This was a wonderful birthday weekend and Misty did a great job planning everything and i loved every moment!  Such wonderful memories that will last a lifetime spent with my best friend!  I love you my Angel.... THANK YOU for all you did for me!  I can't wait for our next adventure!

[...] Halloween was my burfday and one of the things Misty got me was Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009 for the Xbox 360!  LOVE IT!  If any of you reading out there have this game and ever want to play online, just leave a comment or email me and we’ll hook up!  So i’ve been spending some evenings playing around with that and just having some ME time away from the computer!  Also, Misty got me a new cell phone for my b’day!  My first Blackberry Curve!  Dang, for somebody that loves technology and tries to stay up on everything, after getting this phone, i feel old and behind haha!  It’s basically a small computer and has so many features that i’ve spent quite a few hours trying to set it up, work out the bugs and learn everything.  But it is way cool!
