What Is The Purpose Of YOUR Blog?

27 January 2009 11 Comments

If you've read this blog for any length of time, then you know I'm all over the place with my posts. Some say that's a terrible thing for a blog. And I guess it could be if you really want to focus on selling a specific product and really push that product. But, that's not the route I'm taking on this blog!

Do I Have A Special Purpose At JakeCpuNut.com?

If you've never read my First Post on this blog, then now is a good time if you want to see what my purpose for this blog is. Am I trying to make money with this blog? I'd be telling a lie if I said no, BUT, I don't push it. I don't focus every post on Internet Marketing or try to push Jake's Favorite Ebay Products very often. I do love helping people and I love being able to speak my mind, and I feel like I accomplish that here on this blog.

I also enjoy finding deals for people and placing ads for things I think people would like to purchase. Everyone loves a deal right? I added Jake's Favorite Ebay Products to this site, to give people yet another reason to visit and maybe find a deal on something they've been looking for. Ebay has always been a great place to shop. I shop there often so why not give others the opportunity? Right? Right!

I also love the fact that I can share the tools that I use to make money using the Internet. I have several other websites that are very focused and those sites have taken me to a level of Internet Marketing that I never thought I would see. In less than one year, I am a firm believer in knowing you CAN make money using the Internet and with work and dedication, it can be a very nice source of income!

What Is The Purpose Of YOUR Blog?

I read several blogs every day. Actually I spend too much time reading and not enough time working. Most of the blogs I read are very specific about what they are trying to accomplish or offer. They are on that narrow path, focusing on whatever product or idea they are passionate about (at least I hope they are passionate about it). I often wonder if they ever want to just let loose. I wonder if they wish they could widen the road and still have a successful blog, or are they scared or worried it will sink the ship if you stray too far from the product.

So what is the purpose of your blog? Do you feel "tied down"? Do you ever wish you could loosen it up a little and not have to be so business minded on everything you do on your blog?

Is it a bad thing to have a blog like this one where I seem to be all over the place? Or can that be a good thing?

Come on bloggers, what are YOUR thoughts on this? I would love to hear them!

I would be bored if your blog was all business, or one-track-minded… I like it :)

On my blog, which is pretty much a personal one, I just ramble on about things and show some of my drawings.

I don’t really think about it too much. I just open Word and start typing, most of my blog posts are inspired by my drawings, but that’s what I spend most of my time doing.

I have thought about taking a more distinct route i.e something about illustration but I’m not sure if I would be able to think of any decent articles to write about.

I just prefer rambling on, however crazy it makes me look!

I haven’t been reading your blog that long but like most blogs I read, I like it because of the way it’s written, informal, personal and a bit all over the place, just the way I like it.

@ Ashley – Well thank you! I try to mix it up just for YOU ha

@ Mark – What’s up man! I see you are still banging out those nice drawing on your blog! NICE WORK!

Yeah, i see that on your blog.. you are just being you and if people like it they like it, if the don’t they don’t right? I like that as well.. makes it feel more personal and i know i’m getting YOU when i visit your blog!

I know there are blogs i visit that are straight forward and to the point and those are ok too.. i just like to let loose and be me ya know?

Thanks for the compliment and comment!

Man, Jake. I’ve struggled with this ever since I started my blog. As a matter fact, trying to keep it so narrowly focused was a major reason for quitting my blog the first time. I have to think wide, otherwise I run the risk of running out of content.

It’s also interesting to learn that you have more than one blog you’re working on. How do you juggle them and keep them all fresh?

What up T! Man it is soo refreshing to have a blog like this where i can be loose and not be so narrow.. for me it’s a breath of fresh air. I know some of the others would say, it’ll never make money, or it’s too “all over the place” but… it IS making money and it IS making me happy haha!

I would much rather visit a blog that has some “personality” to it, even if they are pushing something specific or whatever.. i would feel more at home!

I say just be YOU! Be yourself man and write for you! And like you said, that opens a huge door to content and post ideas and you’ll find ways to even tie those into what you’re trying to sell or get across!

As far as my other blogs, all of those are for niche stores for BANS sites. I do struggle with some of them because some of them i don’t know that much about the subject. And we all know how much of a struggle it can be to “come up” with something rather than KNOWING what you’re talking about!

One thing i have just discovered is WPanswers.. it’s a neat little plugin that gets questions and answers for you from Yahoo Answers and automatically makes posts out of them.. check it out sometime!

Just hang in there and enjoy yourself! If you’re not having fun, then you’re doing something wrong!

    Jeff –

GREAT post about showing some personality in your own posts!! I am a loser in that regard and try to keep 99% of what I talk about, structured and on topic on my own site… :-)

Of course, I think alot of that has to do with wanting to remain politically correct and keep the readers interested in the topic they subscribed to as well.

Elijah actually had a similar post on his post at one time about this also… after I read his, I decided to open up a bit more and be… Me! After reading yours, I may take it one step deeper into the cavern of my head!

Just an FYI – “Me” is a scary proposition! Kim will vouch for that! I have a 80% completely different persona in person than I do on my blog… I think I have been called “Unique” many times! LOL VERY Twisted sense of humor!!

No doubt kid! Keep it up man..don’t let nobody box you in man. This is YOUR blog, YOUR business, and you have the creativity and the freedom to do things on YOUR terms, not everyone else’s.

Too many folks want to be a “me too” in business and life in general. It’s okay to get tips, learn from others, etc…but too many, especially bloggers, try to write and sound like each other.

FUNK DAT lol….do you son! Keep it going man, you’ll be fine.
