Earlier in the week I mentioned how my golf game is sucking!  I also made a reference to Internet Marketing and how the two are kind of alike... Now how could golf and Internet Marketing have anything in common?

I'm a firm believer that in just about everything, sports, art, etc etc..  people either have a knack for it or they don't!  If a person has a knack for something, then it's easy to pick up on, every aspect of it comes to them easier.

But if a person doesn't have a knack for something, the struggle to learn and apply the task at hand can be overwhelming and they probably will end up quitting.

I've read it before and I don't remember the numbers, but I do know that the percentage of people who try their hand at Internet Marketing and quit after only a few months is very high!  Most folks are looking for overnight success and want that dollar NOW!  But that's just not the way it works!

There's a Learning Curve With Everything!

Let's say you have a knack for golf...  maybe the first time you picked up a club you were able to hit the ball long and straight.  No one had to teach you, no one had to tell you how to stand or hold the club... it just came naturally and you hit the ball very well from the get go.  Does that mean you're ready to play?  Not yet!  Even if you do have a knack for golf, you still need to "learn" the game.

Even though you can hit the ball well, you need to learn how hard to hit the ball and which club gives you the right distance for the shot you're taking.

You will need to learn the rules of golf.  Where to hit the ball, when to hit the ball, golf etiquite etc etc.  You also need to get the proper equipment.  Clubs, bag, balls, shoes, tees and all that's needed to play the game.

And even though you had that knack for hitting the ball, you can always use practice to hone your skills.  Practice practice practice.  At times you're probably going to struggle and you may need a teacher or "mentor" to show you what you're doing wrong.  It may be a simple problem with your stance or your grip and correcting it will put your right back on track and make you even better at the game!

Along with that, think of how a golfer has different challenges for EVERY shot!  The ball has a differnt lie, there are slopes and angles to deal with, wind and obstacles that have to be accounted for.  You have to apply EVERYTHING you've learned about golf to EVERY shot to be successful!

So even though you had a knack for golf, you still had to learn that there is more to golf than just hitting the ball!  But if you apply yourself to EVERY part of golf, learn everything you can about the game and have patience and NEVER GIVE UP, you could very well be the next Tiger Woods!

Can you see where all of that applies to Internet Marketing?

Make sense?

Internet Marketing Has The Same Challenges as Golf.

When I thought about this post earlier in the week, the more I thought about golf and Internet Marketing, the more I realized they have a lot in common.  Just like with golf, you may have a knack for making money online.  If you have a good knowledge of computers, the internet, typing, writing skills, then you have a huge advantage over many others that dive into this business.

Just like the person that had a knack for golf and walked up to the ball and hit it long and straight the first time, you may sit down at the computer and know where to go find information, know how to type up your thoughts in a blog post.  You may already have a heads up on how to search for information and research ideas.  You may already know how to comment on others blog posts and you could be very comfortable working with scripts, plugins, wordpress and all the tools that are needed for Internet Marketing.

Does that mean you're ready to tackle the venture of making money using the internet?  Not yet!  Just like with golf you need to know the rules!  Just as golf has tools, clubs, shoes, balls etc etc.. Internet Marketing has tools that you will need to learn to use.  With Internet Marketing,  you need to surround yourself with knowledgeable people that will "mentor" you and help you along the way.  Find someone that will take time to show you your mistakes and/or show you better ways to do things!

As mentioned above, EVERY shot in golf has to have all your focus  and full attention or you will make a bad shot!  With Internet Marketing, you need to stay focused, determined and with EVERY post, EVERY ad you place, EVERY comment you make, EVERY back link you leave... take all that you have learned and apply it to each and every one of those and everything else that Internet Marketing entails.

You have to change and adapt to EVERY shot in golf...  You also have to be willing to change and adapt to the ever changing world of Internet Marketing.  What works today, may not work tomorrow!

Will You Always Be Successful?

Short answer.. NO!  With the game of golf, some folks try and try and try and it's just not for them.  For whatever reason, it just doesn't click and they just can not learn how to hit the ball.

BUT, there are some of those that do not have the knack for golf that will do everything in their power to learn how to play.  They practice, they seek others for advice, they watch videos, they read, they learn and they put what they learn to use!  They NEVER give up and it pays off!

Same thing with Internet Marketing and making money online.  Some folks just do not get it... and hey, that's ok.  It's not for everyone!

BUT, if you do have a few computer skills or even if you don't, if you are willing to learn and have patience and apply everything you learn to your blog or website and not give up.... then I'm telling you this...  it's MONEY IN THE BANK!

Have a GREAT Friday Everybody!

Great stuff, Jake. I like to think I know a lot of stuff, but I’m nowhere close to making the kind of money I should be making. I have a block somewhere, but after all these years, I still haven’t given up. I guess that puts me ahead of lots of folks, eh? :-)

considering bogey is the failure, but you can make a new game again and start earning but don’t forget the errors that you made. That’ll be your motivator to win and take the shot as HOLE-IN-ONE!
