Our New Favorite Winery! Round Peak Vineyards!

21 July 2009 7 Comments

Ok, hold your hand up if you know Misty and I LOVE wine?  Ok, if you're holding your hand up your a dork haha..  Seriously..  Most of "Our Special Times" include wine in some form or fashion.  Whether we're going to a wine festival or going to a tasting or just hanging with friends, we love some good wine!  Heck bad wine is even good after you drink enough good wine haha.

Misty and I have been looking for a place to get married for what seems like forever.  We really want it to be somewhere special, but finding that special place that doesn't cost us both arms and both legs hasn't been the easiest task!

Oh yeah, and hopefully before too long, I'm going to start posting on our wedding and all that's involved with finding this and finding that, planning this and planning that and just have a category for it so I can blog about it as often as I can.  It should be interesting!

round-peak-wineryAnyway, back to wine!  I couldn't tell you how many wineries we've visited, and each one we've visited has had it's own character and is special in it's own way.  A few weeks back, Misty went with some of her friends to visit Round Peak Vineyards.  Round Peak is a small community that's about 15 miles or so from the house.  Interestingly enough, as much as we love wine, and as many wineries as we've visited, we never had visited Round Peak Vineyards.  I remember Misty was so excited after her visit up there with her friends.  She not only loved the wines, the scenery really caught her eye and she told me I just HAD to look at it that it was a possible wedding site!  Hmmmmmm, hahahaha... we had already had about 3 or 4 possible wedding sites!  I'll try to get more into that subject though when I start blogging about the wedding!

So not long ago, Misty and I made a visit up there to meet Ken Gulaian & Kari Heerdt who are the owners, and to also check out the winery and view etc etc...  Let me tell you folks, Round Peak Vineyards is one AWESOME spot!  To begin with, Ken & Kari are very sweet and they are GREAT hosts!  The atmosphere is very laid back and the wines are great!  Ken, if you read this... I'm ready for some "beaker" wine haha!

Along with that great atmosphere is a spectacular view of the vineyard, Round Peak, Skull Camp and the Blue Ridge mountains off the back patio.  Just this past weekend we went back with some friends and just sat and did a wine tasting and had a couple of glasses and enjoyed great conversation with Ken & Kari as we all watched the sun set over the mountains.round-peak

Ken & Kari are very interesting and both have done quite a bit of traveling.  So they had some great stories to tell and you'll feel right at home soon after you walk in the door!

Soooo, if you're ever looking for a nice relaxing evening and want to enjoy a great glass of wine and also enjoy a great view, take a drive up to Round Peak Vineyards, you will LOVE it!

Me thinks we've found our wedding spot!

    Hi Jake,

It certainly looks like a gorgeous vineyard.

It reminds me of an area just outside my hometown of Melbourne in Australia known as the Yarra Valley – a region which is famous for wineries and vineyards and, like the picture above, very beautiful scenery.

Is there something particular about wine growing areas? It almost seems to me as though almost any wine growing region (or at least the ones with which I am familiar) offer very beautiful scenery.

Anyhow, I look forward to hearing more about the progress of those wedding plans in some of your future discussions on this blog.

@ Andrew – it is gorgeous for sure! There are quite a few beautiful places right around this area.. since we’re in the foothills, we sit at the base of the Blue Ridge Mtns, so you can always get a nice view of the mountains, or ride up on the mountains and look over the flat lands below…

I don’t really know the particulars of what makes good wine country, but I definitely agree with you that every winery we’ve visited also has beautiful scenery!

ha, I’m looking forward to the progress of our wedding plans also brother haha!

    Hi Jake,

Have you tried a Church to get married, oh I forgot they do not give away their wine. A winery to have a wedding seems very dangerous, the people may drink the whole wine that is already there, its like a bomb waiting to explode, lol.

@ Luis – Nah, we’ve both already had church weddings in our previous marriages…

hahaha.. well, their will be alchohol for sure, but WE will make sure there are DD’s available and also we will be renting a place next door (hopefully) so those that can’t drive won’t have to ;)
